Popol Vuh

Popol Vuh is one of the most important books that the Maya wrote. It is the creation story of the Maya. It was written, then burned during the Spanish conquest. The story was orally passed on, and rewritten.

The creation story of the Maya was not like most creation stories. First animals were made, but they did not worship their creators and were forced to live in the forest. The first people were made out of mud, but they were unable to see and would melt in the rain. Next people were made of wood, but they did not have misnds, souls, or hearts. Finally people were made out of maize(corn). This was because corn allowed the Maya to be advanced in agriculture.
