The Beginning of Catholicism in Kongo

Slave Trade

There was a large amount of slaves sold in Kongo. The estimated amount of slaves sold between the years of 1500's and 1860 were 12 to 20 million Africans. These slaves were shipped to America where they were purchased by wealthy people. There were about 7 million slaves sent to North Africa and the Middle East between the years of 900 and 1900. The very first Europeans to take part in this horrible activity were the Portuguese. The slave trade increased when more Europeans started to send more Africans to the plantations in the Americas. The Europeans that were involved in this activity were the British, the Dutch, the French, the Spaniards, the Swedes, and the Americans. The woman, men, and even children were sent across the seas to America work for wealthy land owners. Many wars and arguments led to people getting enslaved. This horrible activity that the Europeans involved themselves in caused so much pain to family members. The families of the slaves would worry about them and some would never see them. Many people did not know where their family members were and if they were even alive. This caused vast amounts of emotional pain. Africa lost so many young children that Africa's population stayed the same for centuries while other continents expanded in large amounts. Africa had so many hardships because of the slave trade. They had to fight through many wars, suffer a still economic development, and fight the activity of slave trades.
