Honesty is the human quality of communicating and acting truthfully, in accordance with a sense of fairness and sincerity. This includes all varieties of communication, both verbal and non-verbal. Honesty implies a lack of deceit. A statement can be strictly true and still be dishonest if the intention of the statement is to deceive its audience.

Tips for Honesty

Encourage honesty in your children. Tell them how sad someone must be to have lost what     your child has found, whether it’s money or a toy.

If you know your child is lying, don’t accuse. Instead, tell him how special the truth is     and how proud you are when he is truthful.

Agree that honesty is a priority. If you cannot agree that you should make an effort to     tell the truth to one another.

Be mature. No name-calling, derisive remarks, or belittling contemptuous comments     should be allowed when carrying on an honest conversation with a loved one.

Sometimes intense discussions are difficult and exhausting. If you're trying to be honest     with each other, make sure you allow one another to "drop out" at some point for a     cooling off period or some down time.
