One of the most popular stadiums in Europe is the San Siro Stadium.
The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, renamed in honour of Giuseppe Meazza, Milan player of the 1930s and 1940s, is the home of A.C. Milan. Although renamed, it still is more commonly known as San Siro. It has a good atmosphere because of the large roof and the viewers being very close to the pitch.
Piero Pirelli handed over his gift for A.C. Milan on 19th September 1926. The stadium was built over a course of 13 months, and costed 2 million dollars, with 10.000 spots.
In 1939, the viewing area was transformed so that it could fully embrace the game area; it's capacity grew to 55.000 spots. Constructions were underway, the stadium's capacity would have been triplicated, but the government decided in 1952, that no more than 100.000 were to be let in.
The establishment received it's final form in 1989, when it was rebuilt for the 1990 Championship. The third floor had been built (practically the prolongation of the second floor), which is being held by 11 striated columns. The four heel towers contain elevators and other establishments, but theese keep the massive roof too.
The fibreglass roofing was also built in 1989, and it covers the full auditorium.

:: The Referee
 It was determined in 1890, that the referee should not be a member of the participating teams, and that his decisions are final. The referee - who wears a distinctive jersey, such as golden-yellow, purple, or light blue - manages the match from the first kick untill the last minute of the game. >>click for more<< |
|
:: The duration of a game
 A game should last 90 minutes, divided in two 45 minute parts, with 15 minute break-time. The referee is allowed to add so-called injury time at his own discretion. This can lead to even 50 minute long half times. The one and only clock used is the referee's watch. >>click for more<<

:: Accessories
 Every players' jersey must be tucked in, so it won't disturb them during gameplay. Many players ignore this rule, and they aren't punished for it. >>click for more<<
