The short trousers are part of the equipment, but the keepers are allowed to wear long sweat-pants too. The shirt, shorts, socks, footwear and shin guards are also part of the equipment. The players are allowed to wear protective headgear, to prevent injury.
The players wear special football boots, which can be made either out of leather or synthetic materials. They usually go for studded boots. The studs have been the subject of controversy as several top managers have blamed them for injuries both to opposition players and to the wearers themselves.
