Soccer is one of the most beloved sports. Children, from the youngest age, chase the ball around the yard, moreover, female soccerteams were formed.
The sport provides excitement, recreation, but sometimes causes conflict between people, because some men feel obligated to defend the honour of their favorite soccer club - these people often get into fights over the subject. Also, some people are enthusiastic, even on the border of fanaticism, about a particular soccer club.
The foundations of modern soccer was invented in the United Kingdom. In the 14th Century, soccer was the game of peasants', of plain urban population. They kept day-long games, and these events were very serious.
Towns had organised games between each other, sometimes even with 500 players. No one would believe it, but, at these events, the distance between the goals sometimes reached one kilometer. These games often led to fights, so the government had banned it.
In the 19th Century, students had reinvented soccer, and played it according to severe rules. They had defined the length of the field, the number of players, and introduced new concepts, such as 'ambush' or 'goal'. They had prohibited any form of violence.
The world's first amateur soccer club, F. C. Scheffield, was founded in 1857.

:: The Referee
 It was determined in 1890, that the referee should not be a member of the participating teams, and that his decisions are final. The referee - who wears a distinctive jersey, such as golden-yellow, purple, or light blue - manages the match from the first kick untill the last minute of the game. >>click for more<< |
|
:: The duration of a game
 A game should last 90 minutes, divided in two 45 minute parts, with 15 minute break-time. The referee is allowed to add so-called injury time at his own discretion. This can lead to even 50 minute long half times. The one and only clock used is the referee's watch. >>click for more<<

:: Accessories
 Every players' jersey must be tucked in, so it won't disturb them during gameplay. Many players ignore this rule, and they aren't punished for it. >>click for more<<
