Liberia is an independent country that was founded around 1822. It was founded by former African-American slaves freed by the American Colonization society.This Society is currently working on helping small countries like Sudan gain independence from other dominant countries. Liberia is one of the few African countries that is composed of sixteen strong ethnic groups. The country itself is a Republic located east of the North Atlantic Ocean and is approximately 43,000 square miles. The nation alone is about the size of Ohio second to having a population of about 3.49 million people. Liberia has a wide variety of culture that ranges from dancing to traditions. Spending time with one another such as telling stories is always valued.
Above is the current president of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf that took office on January 16th 2006. She is an outstanding woman that is currently trying to get Liberia to reach its full potential as one strong independent nation. She is Africa's first elected female head of state and is often referred to as "Iron Lady" because of her strong will and dedication.
