We visited a school started in 1994 in the corner of a dingy street in Bangalore. The school is run by Mr. Radhakrishnan with a meagre fund from Private organizatiions and some philanthropists. We spent nearly 2 days with them observing their ways of learning, their behaviour with teachers and fellow mates, their maintenance of classrooms, notebooks and other surroundings.
Our observations indicated that they might have lost some of the senses, but God has not totally left them without any direction in life. They have a higher degree of neatness, precision for their age, observation and grasping skills. The photos and videos taken by our team mates clearly stand as a proof for this.
We also visited a Pre University College for Deaf and Dumb in Udhayanagar, Bangalore. The Founder and teacher Mr.Vijayaraj explained the turmoil he underwent for getting the permission from Government Officials for starting the college.
He also added that his trust called Marriage Trust for Deaf and Dumb (Swayamwaraa) help the deaf and dumb people find their partners. He contributes a major share for their weddings too.
He is also an English teacher for the hearing impaired students. He was a film and stage actor by profession and his visit to a function of hearing impaired changed him a lot. We had an opportunity to see his students Umesh, Bhavya & Mamatha, and interact with them in sign language. The team members were amazed at the speed they conversed with each other.
