White house
Construction of the white house began in October 1792 and was nearly completed by 1800. John Adams was the first president to live in the white house with his wife and children.
The white house survived a fire from the British in 1814 and another fire in the west wing in 1929, while Herbert Hoover was president. When Harry S. Truman was president the white house was being renovated. The Truman family lived in Blair House in Pennsylvania Avenue.
There are 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels in the building. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 3 elevators and 8 staircases. The white house also has a tennis court, swimming pool, movie theatre, jogging track and bowling lane.
