Papilionidae:

The Papilionidae are large colourful butterflies with over 500 species found all over the globe. Mainly they are the habitants of tropical region. This family posseses the largest butterfly in the world, the majestic Queen Alexandra of Papua New Guinae. The adults of this family often possess forked tails, thus giving this family the name Swallowtail.

The swallowtail caterpiller possess a unique organ behind their heads, called the osmeterium.Normally hidden, this forked structure can be everted when the caterpillar is threatened, and emits smelly secretions containing terpenes. This species is most poupular among butterfly collectors being the largest and most attractive.
