The Old World Swallowtail (Papilio machaon) is a beautiful Papilionid butterfly main found in the Palaearctic regions of Europe, Asia and Himalayas. It is also know to be spotted in North Africa and North America.
This beautiful butterfly is yellow with black wing and vein markings on wings. They have approximately 8-10cm of wingspan. There are 37 subspecies of this butterfly.
This butterfly is a strong flier and frequently pauses to hover over flowering plants to sip necter.
The caterpiller spends its initial days camouflizing as a bird dropping. As the caterpiller grows larger it becomes green with black.
