This is one of the most abundant family of butterfly with more than 5000 species of Nymphallidae spread all over the globe. The bright colouration of the upperside of the wings makes the butterfly very attractive where as the underside of the wings of butterflies of this family is generally dull. They are usually mediu m to large in size.
Due to the small size of the first pair of legs, this butterfly family is also called Four-footed of Brush-footed butterfly.
