 An adult butterfly has the following body parts:
- A pair of forewings.
- A pair of hindwings.
- Tri-segmented body(head, thorax and abdomen)
- A pair of Antennae
- One Proboscis
- Three pair of legs.
- Compound eyes.
The butterfly wings are made up of scales. The colouration of the butterfly is due to the scales. The microstructure of the scales scatter the light to give the colouration effecrts. Since the scales are loosely attached to the wings, they come off easily without harming the butterfly.
The abdomen has 11 segmets. The butterfly breathes through the Spiracles present on the abdomen.
The Proboscis is used as a straw to suck the necter from the flowers.
