The Common MormonPapilio polytes is a species of Swallowtail butterfly commonly found across Asia. It has a black body with white stripes at the middle part of hind wing. It grows up to 90-100mm in size.
This butterfly exibits mimicry in its female morphs romulus and has resemblance with male Crimson Rose. The male has a single morph where as the female has four (styrus, stichius, romulus and sakontala).
The female Common Mormon lays a single egg on the top of a leaf which is orange or yellow in colour and round in shape.
The caterpiller of this butterfly is often attacked by Chalcid Wasp that lays eggs in its body and hundreds of tiny wasps emerge from the pupa.
