TULSI

The botanical name of Tulsi is Ocimum Tenuiflorum, also known as Ocimum Sanctum but it is mostly known as Tulsi or Tulasī (तुलसी‌) in Sanskrit and Hindi.
It is known across South Asia as a medicinal plant and is commonly used in Ayurveda. Its devotees perform worship involving Tulsi plants or leaves.

In India Tulsi is planted in front every home. People believe this plant helps to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2). Indians worship this plant by doing PRADAKHINA which is circling around the plant for 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the evening.

Chipco Moment - ( hug moment)

In some parts of rural India, there are reserved jungles. They are called God’s Jungles or ‘Devrai’. These jungles are protected by Villagers. They would not let anyone destroy the jungles.

This is how some superstitions in India are helping to preserve the nature from decades:

Nearly 500 years ago, a king in Rajasthan, which is a state in India, was building a palace. He ordered to cut down Khejari trees from a jungle for his palace. The villagers protested against the king to not cut the trees down. Yet, the king kept cutting them so the villagers started a movement. They hugged the trees when the king’s men would come to cut them down. Nearly 200 people died in doing so. The king had to take back his orders. Later this movement was called the Chipco (hug) movement.
