An idea struck me while reading an article on harmful effects of Plastics on Environment. It was recommended that emphasis should be more on the usage of paper & metals as compared to plastics.
One thing which we seem to overlook that paper production involves mass destruction of trees . In fact every 3000 sheets of paper are produced at the cost of one tree. As well as its recycling involves much more time , energy and labour as compared to that of plastics.
Our whole world seems to be wrapped in plastic. Almost every product we buy , most of the food we eat & many of liquids we drink come enclosed in plastics. Packaging is the largest market for plastics accounting for over a third of the consumption of raw plastic materials.
Plastic packaging provides excellent protection for any product , it is cheap to manufacture & seems to last forever. Lasting forever , however , is proving to be a major environmental problem.
Another problem is that traditional plastics are manufactured from non-renewable resources – oil , coal & natural gas..
But there are also some favourable factors associated with plastics. Which were explored during this survey project. Its production consumes lesser content of natural resources as compared to the plastics.
Now the various researches are going on to produce bio-degradable plastic which once comes into practice will definitely stop the mass destruction of trees which the production of paper requires.

A group of five students with different ability levels did a comparative study project “Plastic Vs Paper” by using technology at hand , including Surveys , Exhibits , Charts ,Power point presentations to showcase their findings.
The students as well as myself have some experience with having projects and schedule being tight , it is decided to limit the scope of projects to Plastics & Paper and not go for widen aspects like comparison with metals and wood.
The selected students were given a definite time frame to complete the assignment with close guidance & monitoring. The students perfored different tasks and sub-tasks as part of designing the project.
Project activities are broken into the following;
Different sources ofv Paper and Plastics.
Ways of paper disposal / its recycling.v
Impactv of paper and plastic on environment.
Statistical comparison of Paperv & Plastics.
Possible eco-compatibility of Plastics.v
Also since looking at the students level of experience , it was decided to maintain medium level of student autonomy. It was also planned to give students opportunities for self-direction wherever feasible & possible but it is anticipated to give clear guidance & close monitoring so that focus is on stated topics & ‘Schedule’ is adhered to throughout the project.
It was decided to create one group of five with mixed ability & gender and also give opportunity for peer interactions between students to promote more able students with opportunities to help develop the less able ones is adhered to.
Collaboration among students was encouraged wherever possible rather than individuals focusing only on their responsibilities.
In order to promote a more project like experience for the students , it was decided to make some changes in the environment . Arrangement were made in the computer lab with proper setting required for the presentations of the project.

To create awareness in students at individual level talks by project members were given in every class along with posting of the following slogan in each class room.

The periodic supervision to check the wastage of paper was done in primary as well as secondary sections.
The most well kept classes in both groups were given prizes in the assembly.
Hence though the survey part w.r.t the theme of the project is completed , a campaign to stop the wastage of paper at the individual level not only in the school but at their homes will be continued.
The Students were requested to express their own views / reactions / ideas about the project in any creative way.
The response received was overwhelming giving us the assurance that we are able to create awareness and hence achieve the goal of our project.
Project Goal Achieved , Since every member of KV-3 family is now absolutely aware of Significance of OEF & its varios programes
