COMPSITION OF WATER
WATER known as the universal solvent is actually a composition of two gases hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio 2:1. Water like air and food is very essential for the survival of life on earth. Water exists in more than one form that is in the form of solid, liquid, and gas. The molecules of water are loosely packed unlike solids. The three main physical properties water are that:
1. it is odourless.
2. it is colourless.
3. and it takes the shape of the container.
Almost two third (71%)of the earths surface is covered with water, we have
97% of salt water,
2.4% of glaciers and ice caps; and
only 0.6% of fresh water.
Nowadays due to global warming the ice caps are melting leading to rise in sea water. Due to pollution there is scarcity of water and it also leads to endangering the marine life. So it is Upto us, the citizens of tomorrow to conserve water resource.
FORMS OF WATER
- Surface Water : Surface water is water in a river, lake or fresh water wetland. Surface water is naturally replenished by precipitation and naturally lost through discharge to the oceans, evaporation, and sub-surface seepage.
- Sub-Surface Water :
Sub-Surface water, or groundwater, is fresh water located in the pore space of soil and rocks. It is also water that is flowing within aquifers below the water table.
- Frozen Water.
- Water Vapour.
