          The Philippines is a country of 96, 061, 680 people as of July 2008 (from CIA: The World Factbook) living in a 300,000-square kilometer archipelago. The per capita GDP – the ideal amount of money each Filipino citizen should receive – is about $3, 200 as of 2007 compared to Mexico's $12,400 per capita GDP distributed to its 109 million people. More than seven percent of the Philippines' 36.22 million labor force cannot find work. Income is not distributed properly to the country's rapidly increasing population. Because of all these things (and more), life in the Philippines is quite hard. A lot of people are trying to find jobs that can sustain their families. However, there are very few jobs in the Philippines that provide salaries that would be satisfying to the laborer. That's why Filipino workers go to other countries in search for work and high-paying jobs. These workers are called the Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs. Nearly 20% of the Philippine population is OFWs. They sacrifice being with their families just to work abroad and earn enough money to support their families. Being an OFW is really hard. That is why OFW’s are the “New Heroes”. They sacrifice for their families. They sacrifice so that others may have better lives.
