Taekwondo is tied with one other sport, Triathlon being one of the first newly added sports into the summer Olympics according to its year. Korea has many different types of martial arts but in the 20th century Taekwondo became the favorite making it into the Olympics. The martial arts leaders had made this the dominant sport hoping to make it an international sport and it did. The governing body of this sport is the WTF or World Taekwondo Federation was made in 1973. In addition to this the first world Championships were held in this year.
