Biathlon
Olympic sport
Since 1960

The word biathlon comes from the Greek word for two contestants.  Rather than a sport, a biathlon was a survival tactic.  Northern Europeans skied well they hunted for food.  They later skied with weapons.  They did this to protect their country.  Today, this sport is a two-part race.  These parts include cross-country skiing a rifle shooting.
