About Us

 Our Team:

Rajarshi came from India three years ago and soon became accustomed to this tropical island like any other local. In his three years here, he acquired many different skills such as learning how to play the guitar, website designing etc. His enthusiasm, humor, responsibility and influence led to him to be the team leader. Rajarshi, with his excellent leadership, was responsible for organizing the team together in meetings which he has effectively executed. Coupled with his adept oral communication skills, he was able to share his thoughts and opinions coherently which provided the thrust for the group to progress from discussions to actual distribution of work. Lastly, he is also an excellent website designer and computer programmer which enabled him to utilize in creating our website.

One major driving force of the team was Shao Yang. Shao Yang has been a native of Singapore since young and is adequately equipped and familiar with the local elements and cultural customs. He was the main coordinator of the content portion and the person in charge of producing the site map which was the most important structural framework for the team’s progress. With his clear analytical mind and proficient use of English, his articles were well planned and thought out, with apt local cultural elements incorporated. His area of coverage included “Popularity” and “Global Perspective of Cultural Quotient”. Without doubt, he is a worthy asset of the team.

Yan Long is a Chinese born in Chang Sha, China although a major part of his life was spent in Singapore (since the age of five). He is an excellent humanitarian who is effectively bilingual. Being responsible for the “Introduction” aspect of the website, he had to read up from various sources to compile relevant pieces of information together such that viewers would be aware of what to expect from viewing the website. This however did not prove much of a hurdle to him as evident from his articles that were succinct and broad. In addition, he was an effective communicator who ensured that everyone completed their tasks in accordance to the schedule. His sense of humors and refreshing jokes provided a light moment at meetings that were becoming monotonous. With important understanding of the cultural elements in China and selective countries, he is one major contributor.

Eun Kyung is a Korean who was born in Seoul, South Korea. Coming to Singapore three years ago, she has a deep perspective of the cultural features in her native hometown. Together with her knowledge in many languages such as English, Japanese and French, she was able to interpret some online journal and articles that were based in these languages. Through increased exposure at countries like Cambodia, she helped the team to be more responsive to different aspects of cultural quotients which was instrumental in the group’s planning. Her introduction of the TV programme “The Chit-chat of Beautiful Women” was one of the key features that inspired us to work on this topic. She also worked on selective parts of the “Interactive Media” and the part on “ Korea” under “Integrating CQ” in the site. Indeed, she is an integral member in our team.

Lennard is another Singaporean whose familial roots are from Hong Kong. He is one of our main content writers. As a history major student in the team, his knowledge in history was essential in allowing the team to understand how various cultures arose. With his acute command in English, he was one of the main content writers, in charge of a key aspect of the content. His tranquility helped to settle the team down whenever there were disagreements during our discussions. Lennard also possesses a clear mind of issues related to our theme-cultural quotient which he has successfully employed in his articles under “At work” and “Global Perspective of Cultural Quotient”. Lastly, he was also one of the planners of the site map. Overall, he is a key player of the team.

Trong is a Vietnamese who came to Singapore on a scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Education. In his stay here, he contributed significantly to the team’s efforts in creating a website educating viewers on cultural quotient. He has a great sense of humor which helped eased any heated discussions at meetings. Trong was assigned the part on “Studies” about cultural quotient which required clear conceptual understanding and summarizing skills in comprehending the various case studies. With a strong Vietnamese background, he also contributed largely in discussions and provided unique perspectives on the cultural features in Vietnam. His promptness in assimilating abstract articles is one not to be missed. Thus, his role in the team is undeniable.

Diverse Environment:

The team is very diverse as almost all members hail from different countries. The members got the opportunity to know each other as they come from the same class in NUS High. The background of the members was strikingly essential and helpful in bringing up our topic, “Cultural Quotient”. NUS High is environment where about 38% of the student population are foreigners. This gives us the breadth to interact with other races and share experiences. Such interaction allowed the team to have a better grasp and understanding of the topic. Within the team, the different perspectives raised from every member facilitated in the team coming up with a site map that is balanced and not too biased.

Obstacles faced:

Throughout the course of the project, time was a limiting factor that impeded the group’s progress. As the applications of culture quotient are wide and can be extended upon many areas, the group was split in deciding the primary thrust. This was eventually resolved over several meetings. Also, during the December holidays, the group members were spread out across the globe. Thus, much of the project had to be collaborated over the internet from cybercafés, using messengers and emails as a mode of communication. While some members of the team possessed certain degrees of webpage designing skills, the effort to understand them well for effective integration of the content together was a task not to be reckoned with. As the group worked together over the few months, there were many other obstacles faced such as accounting for the references, seeking out the most appropriate sources to read up on, etc. The team suffered many sleepless nights in preparing for the final website. Amidst all this stress, the members never failed to motivate one another to push on. Indeed, the feeling of completion was euphoric as it symbolized not only the information researched, but also group synergy, sleepless nights and many valuable lessons. As the group would agree, every member has grown stronger psychologically, better equipped for any challenge that may be lying ahead of us.
