Church of Saint Mark College
Saint Mark College goes back to 1921
when the monks in charge of the administration of Saint Catherine
School (Al Mansheya) decided that they need to construct a new
school to accommodate the increasing number of students. They sought
the permission of King Fouad to build a new school and at his
agreement, work started on the new project in 1925 in an area devoid
of any buildings in Shatbi
The school was inaugurated in 1928.

The Birthplace of Christianity in Africa
When St. Mark came to Alexandria in 62 A.D. he spread the
Christian faith to its citizens and founded the Alexandrian throne
which later became known as the Coptic Church,. The first
Alexandrian who became Christian was a shoemaker by the name of
Anianus. Saint Mark turned Anianus’ house into a church ,
his home is the current location of the cathedral now.
