There are a lots of medicinal systems all over the world. They include:

Allopathy

Allopathy is coined fron two Greek words: állos meaning other, different + páthos meaning suffering. It is now the most used medicine system in the world. Who has not heard of aspirin tablets? Aspirin tablets are not only good for headaches, but they are also used to cure deadly diseases such as the Kawasaki. For treating Kawasaki, doctors prescribe high doses of gamma globulin (purified antibodies). Vitamin-K injections are given to prevent bleeding during jaundice. Antibiotics like Chloroquine, Mefloquine, Tetracyclines, Primaquine, Pyrimethamine, Proguanil and Quinine are still in use to cure malaria. Newer drugs like Halofantrine, Artesunate and Qinghaosu are being used for cases of Chloroquine-resistant malaria. Allopathic cures are not much effective against viral diseases, such as measles and chicken pox. So they have to be treated with antimicrobials. Analgesics, anti-pyretics, and broad-spectrum antibiotics are used during the acute phase to minimise the risk of secondary infection in Dengue fever. Medications in the form of ointments, drops or pills may be recommended to help kill the germ infecting the eye, relieve allergic symptoms and/or decrease discomfort during conjunctivitis.

Homeopathy

During winter, agni (digestive fire) becomes stronger and it can effectively digest heavy and large quantities of food. If you do not eat the right food, agni may even absorb the dhaatus (tissues). To arrest this, take plenty of food. Consume milk, ghee, fat, oils and new rice as dietary staples. Include sour, sweet and salted soup or meat of aquatic and marshy animals in the diet. Try wine ninegar and honey in the diet . Regularly massage the body with oil. Apply oil on the head. Use room heaters or spend time in heated chambers. Expose the body to the sun's rays. Avoid light and cold foods, bitter, pungent and astringent tastes etc. To prevent drying up of the skin, take 100ml of milk; add 5 drops of olive oil and 8 drops of rose water to it. Massaging of skin with mustard oil is good for the skin during winter. Sunrays will enhance the good effects of this procedure. Eat plenty of greens and seasonal fruits.

Many herbal cures have been discovered since the time of Charaka and Sushruta, the great Indian physicians.

Acupuncture

Acupoints used in treatment may or may not be in the same area of the body as the targeted symptom. The Chinese system of medicine, theory for the selection of such points and their effectiveness is that they work by activating certain organs resulting in the stimulation of yin, yang and qi (also spelled "chi" or "ki"). This theory has no analogue in western medicine. Five Transporting Points are as follows:

  • Jing-well points
  • Ying-spring points
  • Shu-stream points
  • Jing-river points
  • He-sea points
