The Story of a Shirt

This page tells the story of a shirt. It begins with the production of cotton and ends with the sale of the shirt. We shall see that a chain of markets links the producer of cotton to the buyer of the shirt in the supermarket. Buying and selling takes place at every step in the chain. Let us read more......

The journy of a shirt starts from a farmer's land.Cotton is produced by the hard working farmers. Farmers sell the cotton to the traders in their villager the nearest markets. This traders purchase cotton at very low price. Then the traders sell the cotton to the ginning mills. Ginning mills clean the cotton and convert it into balls. Now clean cotton is sold to spinning mills where it is converted in to yarn. These yarns are sold to the yarn dealers. Yarn dealers or merchants give the yarn to the weavers. The weavers who live in in village convert yarns into clothes with the help of their looms. In the power looms yarn is woven into clothes.
This cloth is returned to the dealers by the weavers .Garments exporters or factories buy this cloth from the dealers or merchants and use this to make the shirts. Shirts are prepared by the taliors in the factories. These shirts get finished by ironing, buttoning and packing.
The exporters or suppliers sell these shirts to the bussiness persons in the markets. Now in the showrooms of markets these shirts are sold at high price.Customers come there, select his/her favourites and buy it.
