Cough
· If cough is due to hoarseness and swelling of throat then take 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon soda and white or red alum equal to 1 grain of rice and mix it with 1 glass lukewarm water. Gargle with this water after every 3 hours. Do not take oily or sour food.
· Take a piece of black salt or liquorice. Keep it in the mouth and suck it.
· Take 1/2 teaspoon ginger juice and mix it with 1/2 teaspoon honey and lick it 3-4 times a day.

Headache
· Grind a soap-nut in water and filter it with a clean cloth. Put 2 drops of this water in each of the nostril.
· Put some drops of the juice of leaves of lemon in each nostril.
· If sandalwood is rubbed in water and smeared on the forehead then it gives relief from the headache due to hot weather.

Skin Diseases
· Boil 2 corinda fruit (Carissa car
andas) in 1 chatank oil (approx. 2 ounces) and apply it on the affected area.
· Mix equal amount of the gum of papaya with turmeric powder and apply it on the skin.

Ear Problems
· Put some drops of slightly warmed juice of garlic in the ear.
· Warm juice of onion can also be used.
· The warm juice of betel leaves is also affective.

Fever
· Mild sweating helps to digest the toxins. Lie on a bed covered with a blanket, for 15 to 20 minutes. Drinking a hot liquid also helps a lot.
· Take 10 grams (one-tablespoon) raisins and 10 grams fresh ginger. Crush and put in 200-ml water for one hour. Boil this decoction till the water reduces to 50 ml Strain and drink while warm.

Indigestion
· Fasting completely for one day is a very efficient method to digest Ama.
· Taking fruits, fruit juices and boiled vegetables for one week is also a very beneficial way of fasting.
· Lemon juice mixed in warm water taken three times a day improves digestion.
· Chewing a small piece of fresh ginger with salt, five to ten minutes before meals, stimulates digestion.
· Take equal amounts of ginger powder, black pepper, dried mint leaves, asafetida (hing), anise seeds, coriander seeds, cumin, fennel and common salt. Grind these together to make a fine powder. Take about 1 teaspoon of this powder with water, twice a day after meals.
· Drinking buttermilk after a meal improves digestion. Roasted cumin seeds and a little salt in the buttermilk improve its effectiveness.
· Drinking water gives immediate relief to symptoms like wind, distended stomach and acidity.
· Eat half a teaspoon of aniseed to improve digestion.
· A teaspoon of ginger juice mixed in a quarter cup of warm water can be taken two or three times a day. A teaspoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt can also be added to make it more effective.

Some Common Medicinal Plants

1. Sarpagandha
Used to treat blood pressure; it is found only in India.
2. Jamun
The juice from ripe fruit is used to prepare vinegar which is carminative and diuretic and has digestive properties. The powder of the seed is used for controlling diabetes.
3. Babool
Leaves are used as a cure for eye sores. Its gum is used as a tonic.
4. Neem
It has high antibiotic and antibacterial properties.
5. Tulsi Plant
It is used to cure cough and cold.
6. Kachnar
It is used to cure asthma and ulcers. The buds and roots are good for digestive problems.
7. Brahmi, Nir-brahmi
It is used as very good nerve tonic and sedative with very good effect on stress. Extracts of leaves are used in Hair tonic preparations. Leaves are useful as Ayurvedic Medicinal Herb.
8. Ghikunvaar, Aloe vera
The juice of the leaves is used in cosmetic for the skin treatments. The gel derived from the leaves have so many varied uses like cure for Diabetes, gastric disorders, burns, cosmetic, skin care etc.
9. Ketaki
In Ayurveda the plant is used for treatment of rheumatoid artheritis, sciatica.
10. Shivlingi
In Ayurveda the leaves and the seeds are used for treatment of fevers with flatulance and as tonic, the plant is also useful in inflamation.

HOME REMDIES FOR ADULTS AILMENTS

COUGH
1. 2-3 cloves fried in ghee to be placed in mouth and sucked.

2. 1/2 gm powder of long pepper mixed with rock salt twice daily, with hot water.

3.  Take powder of equal parts of long pepper and dry ginger, (5 gm.) with honey, twice daily.

4. 5 gm. powder of equal parts of black pepper, dry ginger and sugar mixed with butter/ghee, twice daily.

TOOTHACHE
1.Cotton soaked in clove oil, place near painful teeth.

2.Place Asafoetida(Hing) and salt near the painful teeth

3.Put black peeper/clove/carum seeds(Ajwain) in mouth

EARACHE
1.
Instill warm juice of ginger, 2-4 drops in the ear, twice a day.

2. Instill warm juice of radish, 2-4 drops, twice a day.

3. Instill 2-4 drops of warm juice of garlic in the ear, twice a day.

COMMON FEVER
1.
Take 2-3 gm. powder of ginger, black pepper and long pepper, 2-3 times a day.

2. Take of 30 gm. Coriander seeds in 100 ml. Of water and sugar, once a day in the morning.

3. Take 1 gm. powder of long pepper with 5-10 gm. Honey, three times a day.

INDIGESTION
1.
Boil 5 gm. of dried ginger in 1 litre of water, to be taken several times in a day.

2. 2 gm. powder of dried ginger, mix with 3 gm. Jaggery, twice in a day.

3. A pinch of asafoetida (Heeng)in 1 table spoon of warm water, 2-3 times a day.

4. 3 gm. Carum (Ajwain) seeds, 1 gm. of salt, with warm water, two times a day

VOMITTING
1. Take juice of one lemon in 250 ml. of water and 25 gm. sugar, thrice a day.

2. Chebulic myrobalan (Harad) powder 1-3 gm. with 1 teaspoon honey, thrice daily.

3. Fried Large cardamom seed (Bari Illaichi) 1/2-1 gm. with 1 teaspoon honey, three times a day.

DIARRHOEA
1. 1-3 gm. Of dried ginger powder mixed with equal parts of sugar, two times a day.

2. Take 1 gm. Powder of fried cumin/long pepper/dried ginger with one cup of butter milk, 3-4times a day.

3. 5 gm. Isabgol husk with a cup of curd, twice a day.
