Spiders

          Spiders have always had a bad reputation. Some people have arachnophobia which is an abnormal fear of spiders. It probably helped early humans survive. Most people don’t like to have spiders in their house and squash them. Spiders actually help people by killing flies, bees, and other pesky bugs. Most spider bites are harmless or not quite as bad as a bee sting. Then again there are some spiders that are very dangerous such as the Black Widow or Brown Recluse. These two spiders are actually very shy and only bite if provoked. The Funnel Web spider is dangerous but usually injects very little venom. The Brazilian Wandering Spider requires very little provocation.

• In the 20th century 100 spider deaths were reported and 1,500 jellyfish stings.
• There are about 111 Families and 40,000 subspecies.
• Spiders live on every continent except Antarctica.
• Baby poisonous spiders are just as dangerous as adults.
