HAIKU
Haiku is a three lined poem. It is usually about nature. The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables. It does not have to rhyme.

Fall
Leaves crunch under me
Fall colors are all around
Red, gold, yellow, brown
Rabbit
Small and shy and soft
Hopping around the garden
Eating the veggies
Diamonte
A diamonte poem describes two opposites. The first line has one noun. The second line has two adjectives describing that noun. The third line has three verbs ending in -ing that have to do with the same noun. The seventh line has one noun, the opposite of the first line. Line 6 - two adjectives describing line seven. Line 5 - three verbs ending in -ing that have to do with line 7. Line 4 - the first to words have to do with line 1, the second to words have to do with line 7.

Rhyming
Rhyming poems are simple. Pick a subject and describe it or talk about it in rhymes.

The clock
The clock chimes one, mom feeds her son. The clock chimes two, a cow says moo. The clock chimes three, school is out yippee! The clock chimes four, just one more chore. The clock chimes five, at swimming lessons I learn to dive. The clock chimes six; we make a cake from a mix. The clock chimes seven; I play with my friend Devin. The clock chimes eight; we have dinner even though it’s late. The clock chimes nine, Go to bed says mom, I say fine. The clock chimes ten, I dream of great men. The clock chimes eleven, I dream of when I turned seven. The clock chimes twelve, now we start again.
