The hamburger is an American icon, the center of many of our family gatherings and
children's fun filled trips to McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc. Hamburger meat comes from cows. In the U.S., more than 41 million cows are slaughtered for the meat and dairy industries every year (Cattle Facts), but very few people think about or know anything about the processes that produce the hamburger that they're putting in their mouths and eating with utter delight. From the cattle ranges to the
slaughter house, cows are subjected to multiple alterations in order to make their products consumable and long lasting. Large amounts of beef wind up in fast food restaurants where afforable menu items are consumed by people who are totally unaware of the harm that they can cause.
