Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses
There were loads of gods and goddesses. The Greeks were polytheistic, which is the belief in many gods. It was believed that each god ruled something. Along with some gods and goddesses, some also have stories about them. In Roman mythology, gods had the same abilities as the Greek ones, but had different names.

The first god was Zeus. Zeus was the king of all gods. It is believed that when he threw down his spear, thunder would rumble and lightning would flash. Zeus is usually seen with a lightning bolt in his hand. In Roman, the name for this god was Jupiter.

Next, there was Hades. Hades was Zeus's brother. Along with being Zeus's brother, he was also the God of the Underworld. Hades is usually represented as having people farming. In Roman, his name is Pluto.

Another god was Poseidon. Poseidon was also Zeus's brother just like Hades. Poseidon was the God of the Sea. Poseidon is usually represented with horses. Neptune was the name for this god in Roman.

Following Poseidon, there was Hera. Hera is a little bit different. Hera was Zeus's sister, BUT she was also married to Zeus. Hera was the Goddess of Women. In Roman, the name for this goddess was Juno.

Another god was Hermes. Hermes was the smartest god that there was. Hermes may have been smart, but he was the messenger to the gods. Hermes
was the son of Zeus and a mortal woman named Maia. Mercury was the name for this god in Roman.

Then, another goddess was Aphrodite. Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty. Aphrodite was the daughter of Zeus and a mortal woman. In Roman, this god is called Venus.

Next, there was Apollo. Apollo was the son of Zeus. Apollo was also the god of the sun, music, and medicine. He is usually represented by wisdom and prophesy. In Roman, Apollo is still the same, and he is basically the only god whose name is the same in Roman, as it is in Greek.

Following these gods and goddesses, there was Ares. Ares was an interesting god. He was the God of War. Ares was the son to Zeus and Hera. He loved lots of blood in a fight. In Roman, Ares is actually Mars.

Another goddess was Artemis. She was the Goddess of the Hunt, the moon, animal liberation, feistiness, and feminism. Diana is the name for this god in Roman.

There were loads of goddesses, and another was Athena. Athena was the Goddess of Wisdom. She was also the daughter to Zeus. Usually, she is represented by warriors. In Roman, this Goddess is called Minerva.

Another goddess was Demeter. Demeter was the goddess of agriculture. Ceres was the name for this goddess in Roman.

Next, there was Dionysus. Dionysus was the God of Wine and Merriment. He is usually represented by a festival. In Roman, his name is Bacchus.

Last, but not least, there was Hephaestus. Hephaestus was the God of Forges. He was also the husband to Aphrodite. This god is called Vulcan in Roman.
