Background Information
Now
a day, many students like using MSN and SMS to chat. However, do you really
know what is MSN and SMS? Why are they so attracted by using the informal
language? First, let us know more about both of them:
Windows
Live Messenger (formerly named MSN Messenger, and
often colloquially referred to as simply MSN) is an instant messaging client
created by Microsoft that is currently designed to work with Windows XP,
Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows
Mobile. The client has been part of Microsoft's Windows Live set of online
services since 2005. It connects to Microsoft's .NET Messenger Service. The
client was first released as MSN Messenger on July 22, 1999,[1] and as Windows
Live Messenger on December 13, 2005.[2]
Short
Message Service (SMS) is a communications protocol
allowing the interchange of short text messages between mobile telephone
devices. SMS text messaging is the most widely used data application on the
planet, with 2.4 billion active users, or 74% of all mobile phone subscribers
sending and receiving text messages on their phones.
From the information above, we learn that
students use these tools to community with each other since it is more
convenient. However, they use some informal language like ‘why’ becomes ‘y’, ‘please’
becomes ‘plz’, ‘thanks’ becomes ‘thx’ ,etc.
We believe that many of the students use this language as it is a faster and
easier way to communicate. Unfortunately, they don’t really understand that if
they continue to use this language, it can make a bad habit and influence their
daily life. Therefore, we are going to introduce more about it.
