Social Network popularize

As the rapid development of Information Technology, surfing the Internet became a great leisure activity. Through Internet, youngsters can chat with friends, share photos or even share their own views by participating in online chat forums.

Base on some research, we can see that youngsters using online communication tools became much more common. In July 2008, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups did an opinion poll with 501 youngsters on the topic of ‘Communication on digital network of Youth’. They have found that 66.9% of them have communicated with friends by using chat rooms or forums and 62.4% of them by social networking websites (Facebook, hi5, Friendster) in the pass half year. Among these youngsters, the ones who always (36.3%) and usually (46.1%) use Internet takes up most of them.

Why are so many youngsters attracted by blogs and social networking websites?


After interviewing students in Diocesan Girls’ School, 43% of them are attracted by blogs and social networking websites due to peer influence. 3% of them are interested in computer technology.8% of them are open-minded and they want to express their feelings to others that they don’t recognize.28% of them do not want to share their thoughts with their parents (due to the misunderstanding of their parents) but would like to chat with people in the Internet which may afford embarrassment. ( as they think) 5% of them think? It is cool and popular. 6% of them prefer to write in blogs and social networking websites as they can share their thoughts without any responsibility. 7% of them like surfing in social networking websites as they can make new friends.
