COSTUMES

The costumes of Kolis during koli dance is just like garnishing on the salad. During the Koli dances, the Kolis dress in their traditional costumes. Their costumes are colourful, flashy and vibrant. The Koli dances have high emphasis on their dresses. They wear typical and exotic costumes. Their costumes have not been influenced by weastern outfit as well as culture. The descriptions of colourful costumes and ornaments find place in the song.

The men wear 'Lungi' (a triangular garment worn by Koli men) and bright T- Shirts. They mostly wear cotton clothes because the climate of Mumbai is hot. They wear clothes with warm colours because they reflect back the sunlight and help them to stay cool. Their clothes are simple and don't have intricate designs on them and they are not fashoinable at all.

In the Koli dances the women wear traditional 'Sari' (a long piece of cloth draped by women). In the language of the Kolis it is called the 'Adhwa' Sari (the traditional drapery of Koli women). They wear an unique type of 'Chudi'(Indian term which means Bangles)They wear golden ornaments to match with their dresses which add to the glamour. They stick 'Bindis'(A design stuck on head of women to show that they are not widow) on their heads.
