Life: Dalai Lama has been the traditional spiritual and religious leader of Tibet. Tibetans are basically Buddhists with a penchant for peace and steeped in the religion. The present Dalai Lama is the 14TH spiritual head in the series of Lamas who has held this position. His real name is Tenzin Gyatso. He was born at the village Taktse on July 6, 1935.
Relations with China and other works: Dalai Lama is a symbol of love for humanity, peace, non-violence,self-respect and universal brotherhood. In 1950 China started interfering in the affairs of Tibet claiming it to be a part of China. Chinese army indulged in large scale bloodshed to subdue the freedom loving people of Tibet. Their ancient customs and heritage was systematically destroyed. China has slaughtered over a million Tibetans and destroyed thousands of their monasteries. Dalai Lama wants to keep alive the literature, art, medicine and distinct identity of Tibetans. He was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
