Processors...
A processor is also known as a CPU (Central Processing Unit). The operation of most processors is to execute a sequence of stored instructions called a program. The faster your processor is, the faster applications such as Microsoft Word and computer games will load. There are two main brands of processors; AMD and Intel. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Intel is usually more expensive than AMD but Intel do usually bring out faster processors before AMD and Intel processors usually run cooler making them better for powerful applications such as games.
The main types of processors are Quad-Core, Tri-Core, Dual-Core and Single-Core. These days most computers bought from major retailers contain Tri-Core or Dual-Core. Quad-Core is the best but it carries a much larger price tag and is usually more powerful so you would need a powerful power supply. You won't really find Single-Core processors in new computers these days as they are quite old now. However, if you wanted to build a PC for basic use that didn't need to be fast then you could buy a Single-Core for it as they are extremely cheap these days.
