There are many things in life we cannot avoid: people, mathematics, gravity, money…. The list goes on. However, we often conveniently forget something we encounter everyday. We see it everywhere, even when we stare blankly into space or try not to look at anything in particular. Interestingly, we can even see it when we close our eyes! If you haven’t already guessed, the answer is… !

Being human, we all just love colours. We look up to the lovely blue sky to admire the white fluffy clouds. Adolescent girls can’t wait to dye their hair to an oh-so-lovely chestnut brown. Chemists scrutinize precipitates in their test-tubes to investigate compositions of substances.

Maybe we do appreciate colours. Having said so, do you know the effect of colours on you? Have you even realized that colours play an integral part in YOUR life?

Maybe, maybe not. It doesn’t matter. You can always do with a little COLOUR PSYCHOLOGY to brighten your day!

Colour psychology and symbolism are very similar, but colour psychology basically takes the effects of colours on us a step further. Colour symbolism in anthropology and art refers to the use of colours as symbols or the attaching of certain connotations to different colours. Colour psychology, however, investigates the effect of colours on our behaviour and emotions. Colour symbolism can be regarded as a basis for colour psychology as the study often takes into consideration what colours mean to us or signify.

Colour psychology can be a wonderful thing to put into application into our lives. However, little scientific lab research has been carried out in this area and most findings are based on human behavioural observations. Still, these observations have been very encouraging, that colours have more effect on us than we could ever imagine. Maybe, one day, doctors could prescribe colours to patients suffering from depression! Till then, let the world of COLOURS brighten your life!
