Modern Application
Usage Dangers

Due to the extremely small size of nanotechnology and its ability to interact with other objects, the factor of nanotechnology as a toxin to the human body is present. It has the potential to cause unknown chemical reactions in the body and potentailly damage cells. While our body has defense mechanisms for naturally occurring threats, the danger of nanotechnology is that it is an unknown, a foreign agent possibly as deadly as influenza before a cure. Interestingly, as technology progresses, advances in medicine may have to cover for the dangers that can arise.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) researches the dangerous effects of nanoparticles on those most often exposed to it (right), namely workers that manufacture any nanotechnology; over 2 million Americans are encounter high levels of nanoparticles and another 2 million are predicted to be at risk in the not so distant future. NIOSH aids employees in the nanoindustry with informative cautions for workplace safety.
