We'd better stop talking and act!
Many people, after reading articles which say that we must reduce our impacts on earth, start asking the authors questions like "Ok, what can I do?" or "I understood, but why? What is the waste I make" without getting relevant answers. We will try to give you relevant answers to these questions in the next paragraphs.
What can I do to reduce the waste of fuel , coal and gas?
Simple things like turning off appliances while not in use and switching your light globes to energy efficient bulbs, will all help us reach our goal of reducing our annual emissions by 5%.
- When using your car the efficient fuel is hybrid and electric
- Just...give up going to work by car...Use the tube or walk or go by bike...the traffic is awful! Why do you have to waste the fuel and your silence? Milions of barrels a day could be economized
- Switch to green power (wind turbines and solar panels). For example the hot water can be obtained using solar panels and electricity using a small wind turbine.
- Turn appliances off while not in use. Unplug any appliances like mobile phone chargers, TVs, microwaves, MP3 players, which are not being used and are on standby. Turn off anything that doesn't need to be on . Do not use a dryer, use clothe lines.
- Use less hot water. This is not only a good water saving tip, it saves electricity too. Spend one minute less in the shower.
- Use fluorescent light bulbs and not incandescent. Only ONE flourescent light bulb used insead of an incandescent bulb will economize 225 kilos of coal. Now lets see the difference at costs: An incandescent bulb costs 0.5$, it consumes 75 W,it has a longevity of 1500 hours and anual costs of 9.3$...A fluorescent bulb costs 5$, it consumes 25 W, it has a longevity of 10000 hours and anual costs of 2.5$. So...which one is better?
What impacts am I having...which is my waste?
Well, I can't tell you exactly, but if you are not pointing one of the upper points it means that your waste is high! Impacts? When you drive you waste fuel, electricity and you launch important CO2 emissions.
I've read many news about what you are writing here...Whats's wrong?
One of the events is Earth Hour which was a very interesting initiative came from Australia. In 2008, Earth Hour was a global event. For one hour people were recommended to turn off the lights. A total of 150 MegaWatts were economized in Romania, comparative to 165 MW in Bangkok, 900 MW in Toronto, 264 MW in Sydney. Just imagine how many coal was economized...
And yes...many organisations try to make the people sensible of this problem...
