Equine Influenza arrived in Sydney, NSW, Australia on the 8th of August 2007 via stallions from Japan. These horses were transferred to quarantine in Sydney and then taken to stay in Centennial Park Equestrian Centre where they transferred the flu germs to many people and other horses, starting the nationwide epidemic.





Ways it can Spread

Equine Influenza can be spread by:
• Clothing
• Horse equipment
• People
• Buildings that have recently housed sick horses
• Vehicles
• Floats
• Grooming and veterinary instruments
• Close direct contact between horses

It can also be spread by other animals such as dogs.
Outbreaks are most likely to occur when horses are gathered together.
