Human Services and Community Facilities
Human services
The demand for human services in the North District such as aged care, child care and youth services is not as great as un other districts. People in the North District are able to access services in Brisbane and the Central District. Future demand for aged care services are likely to increase in the future. The suburbs un the North District have lower proportions of young people than other districts but still have large number of young people e.g. Rochedale south.
Particular services in the North district include
• Relationships Australia
• Family Connexion
• Southside Disability Service
• Burremah Place Respite Centre
• Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre
• East Logan Respite service for frail, aged and disabled
• Rochdale – Springwood Meals on Wheels
Youth Services
In 1996 there were 25,782 people resident in this District. of these 5661 were young people which equates to approximately 21.95% of the population of the district.
State and Federal governments consider the North District as a relatively low priority area for funding of youth programs. As a result there are no direct youth specific human services located in the North District.
Church based youth groups and mainstream youth organisations such as Youth in Action, Scouts and the Boys/Girls Brigades provide the only real support for young people in the North District. The Priority activities of these groups are focused around recreation and self development programs.
Consistently young people have highlighted the need for an increase in the public transport and greater recreation opportunities along with the need for a place where young people can ‘hang out’ and meet other young people.

Community Facilities
Community facilities are buildings providing physical resources that are used substantially for community services and activities. The resources available from community facilities may include:
• Offices and sessional for delivering services
• Meeting function rooms for community activities
• Specialist activity spaces for particular groups of people
• Outdoor areas, fenced playgrounds with safe play equipment
• Support facilities such as kitchen, toilet and furniture: and
• Equipment and/or adequate storage for each user group.
Community facilities include sport and recreation facilities, parks, schools and child care facilities, as well as other venues such as halls and neighbourhood centres.
Considering the population of this district, The number of sport and recreations facilities is quite low. The major provider in the area is Underwood Park which contains the full range of organisations from small to large. The developmental opportunities of operative approach by resident are in Springwood and Underwood – all of which are medium sized. The Australian Rules Football club in Springwood has the potential to become a large club in the future. The Rugby League club in Springwood faces the problem of being centrally located in the densely populated residential area which results in limited opportunities for development of the site. There are seven Associations offering field sports and 1 association offering court sports.

Parks
The North District Includes Some Very Significant Parks. Springwood Environmental Park with its waling tracks, lookout, and wheelchair circuit is quite unique in such an urban area. The bushland areas of Daisy Hill State Forest and Neville Lawrie Reserve have regional significance. Springwood Park is a popular neighbourhood park and the Priest Gully corridor provides excellent cycling opportunities but older developed areas of Rochedale South and Daisy Hill have a shortage of neighbourhood parks.

Aged care services
Two services for older people exist in the East District. Shalier park meals on wheels was established in a council facility on Bryants Road in 1996. Wirunya Hostel, a blue nursing service complex at Carbrook was completed in 1998.
