TREATMENT
In our modern world we believe in medicine to help us get better. Scientist from around the world have found cures and ways to prevent many diseases. Unfortunately, many of the physical disabilities, at this time, cannot be cured. Some can be prevented by lowering the number of accidents. But many physical disorders are still a mystery, even though scientist have been researching for decades. One of the treatments scientists are looking at is a stem cell research. Stem cells can help nerve cells grow so that some types of paralysis and nerve disorders can be helped. Many people believe that this can help find treatments in the future. But, now, this research is very controversial and banned in many countries.
Most of the treatments today deal with improvement or helping a disabled person be able to function.
TYPES OF TREATMENT
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical therapy is used for rehabilitation. Therapists use exercise and motion to improve muscle tone, balance, posture and strength of muscles. This helps people with physical disabilities better control their bodies.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational therapy teaches people with disability how to do tasks that they need to live independently. For example they may teach and practice how to put on clothes or brush teeth on their own or by using devices.
SPEECH THERAPY
Sometimes people with physical disabilities have problems with speech and communication. Speech therapy can help them communicate better. Speech therapist can teach a person how to use face muscles to speak clearly or they can teach them how to use technology devices to communicate, like for example head pointers.
MEDICINE AND VACCINE
Some conditions can get better or stopped by medicine. for example medicine can be given to prevent seizures. The person is not cured, but if they use medication that doctor gave them that can have their disorder under control. vaccines can also prevent people for getting diseases that can make them physically disabled. For example, polio vaccine has eradicated polio disease in many countries so people do not have to fear it.
