EQUALITY
What protection do people with physical disability have at work and at school? Is it same around the world? What rights do people with physical disabilities have? People pass laws to protect these rights. But often, people with physical disabilities are looked on differently than those who do not have such disability. Therefore, laws are needed to protect their rights.
In 2006, United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This was a very important step because the United Nations is made up of most countries in the world. This meant that almost the entire world realized that people with disabilities have rights and their rights should be protected. One of the most important part of this Convention was that it made it wrong to discriminate against people with disabilities. This means that just because a person has a disability, a workplace or a school cannot tell them they are not welcome.
Unfortunately, United Nations does not have much power to make these laws work everywhere. but, they did ask governments of the countries that are members to pass the laws that protect people with disabilities. This is a very important step to get equality and give people with disability opportunities like everyone else's. This will mean that people with disabilities can go to school with nondisabled students, will not be passed on for a job because they are disabled and will be protected from people who treat them badly.
