Q. What is your disability and what are the effects of it?

A.My disability is Spinal Muscular Atrophy and it has effects of not being able to walk because of the weak muscles in my legs, as well as weak muscles in my arms and the rest of my body.
Q. What is your typical school day?

A. I wake up at 6AM and get dressed with much help from my mom. After my parents place me in my wheel chair I roll to the table to eat breakfast. Soon after breakfast I have to take pills to stop the increasing acid that is caused from my hernia. I can't brush my teeth by myself so my mom helps me. To get to the car I take a little elevator that replaces the stairs and get in the car using a ramp. When we get to school my mom gets me out of my car seat and in my chair. With my mom by my side I roll to the classroom and like any other kid sharpen my pencil and get ready for the long days work .

I’ m in 4th grade so we have to practice hard for FCAT,the big end of the year test and by about 12pm we get lunch.  I eat lunch with little help from my friends. At most recesses I can't participate because we do running races and my teacher thinks the grass is too lumpy to roll on. I get excited watching my friends run the races but sad because I want to race too.

I want to be treated like a normal person even though it’s impossible with all the help I need. When I get home I need much help from my mom to eat diner, take a bath, and go to bed.
Q. How do you want to be medically treated?

A. I feel that doctors should not be nervous about telling me about how I need to be treated because I am always prepared for the worst news. Also I would like to be treated with an IV instead of swallowing medicine and going through surgeries.
Q. What is difficult about school?

A.Not being able to play at PE, writing, and using the bathroom are all hard things about school.

Q. What do you want people to know about you and other disabled children?

A.I want people to know that when I am treated like a normal person I can be more like one.
Q. How do you want to be treated when met?

A.When someone meets me I want to be treated like a normal person instead of people being scared to upset me.
Q. What 3 things make school easier?

A. Nice teachers, kind friends, and being treated normal by some people make my school day better.

Q. What 3 things would make school better for you?

A.Being able to play at PE, kids less scared of me, and a better computer system to help me write would make school better.
