ILLNESS

Some illnesses may cause physical disabilities, as well . These illnesses attack nervous, skeletal or muscular system and change or damage ways they work.  Illnesses can also have effect on what activities people can do. here are some illnesses that may be a cause of  physical disabilities.

DIABETES
According to the Center for Disease Control,  there are about 20.8 million people with ,but 6.2 million of them don't know that they have it. Someone has diabetes when the don't have enough insulin , that lets sugar be converted into energy .The shortage in insulin results in sugar and fat remaining in blood cells. This can destroy organs and cause blindness or kidney problems. Diabetes can be inherited or can be a result of lifestyle.

MENINGITIS
Meningitis and encephalitis attack brain and nervous system. Meningitis can be spread by virus or bacteria. When a person gets meningitis, the part of brain called menages gate inflamed. This is the covering of the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis starts like a bad cold or flu. One of the main signs is pain in the neck or not being able to move the neck.  Doctor usually know a person has meningitis by asking many questions and doing a spinal tap. This means that they take a sample of spinal fluid to check for virus or bacteria. Meningitis usually spreads by sharing food or glass. Not sharing and washing hands is a good prevention. There is also vaccination for some types of meningitis. meningitis can cause deafness and it can also affect brain, such as thinking and learning.

BRAIN TUMOR

Sometimes cells in a person's body can begin reproducing abnormally. They grow into a mass that is called tumor. Tumors can show up anywhere in the body, and some of them happen in the brain. This can cause physical disabilities. This depends on where in the brain a tumor is located and how big the tumor is. People with brain tumors can suffer from sever headaches or have seizures. Brain tumors can also affect vision and speech, as well as memory and thinking. Brain tumors can be treated with chemotherapy like other cancer and they can sometimes be removed by surgery.
POLIO
Polio is caused by virus and can make person paralyzed. This happens because Polio affects muscles. In the first part of 20th century polio was very common in the United States and affected many children. The disease spreads by ingesting something that has virus on it. So, good sanitation and handwashing are very important. There is a vaccination for Polio and it was developed by Jonas Salk in 1955. Since then Polio was eradicated ( which means that disease does not appear any more) in Western world. Unfortunately, although there is a vaccination not all kids around the world get it. World Health Organization is working hard to provide vaccination to children around the world, but there are still some countries in which Polio is a threat.  WHO reports that there were around 1,300 cases of Polio in the world in 2007.Most cases were in India and Nigeria.  WHO's goal is the world free of polio as soon as possible and they are working with many countries and scientists to make this happen.
HEAR DISEASE AND STROKE

Heart disease and stroke both can cause  disabilities. According to the American heart Association,  every 36 seconds an American dies because of heart disease and stroke.  The disability of about 1 million Americans is caused by stroke alone.  Stoke affects nervous system. It makes people unable to control parts of their bodies. For example, their face might become paralyze and this makes it hard to talk or eat. Heart disease can be inherited but it also has a lot to do with lifestyle.
