Song Contest has since become a graduation requirement for all students in grades 9-12 at the Kapālama campus. Thus, the competitive spirit has always ignited a surge in class pride and class rivalry. There are three areas of competition of Song Contest: men, women, and co-ed. Men and women in grades 10-12 will sing their respective men’s and women’s songs. Then the co-ed competition will commence, at which point the 9th graders will join the competition. Song Contest runs for three hours, with a short hō‘ike (hula performance) intermission while the scores for each class are tallied. Song Contest Competition
