We are part of the Upward Bound Trio program- MSIP, The Math Science Initiative Program. We are one of two groups studying Water Chemistry this year. We have completed many successful projects around our area. We also study many different areas of water around the Vermillion area. Water Chemistry is the testing of the chemical properties of water and other information about water. We studied many different components of water chemistry. Some of the things we studied included: pH level, phosphate data, temperature, turbidity, and nitrate.

pH level- measures the acidity and alkalintity of water and other solutions.

Phosphate-A salt or ester of phosphoric acid

  • phosphate. (n.d.). The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Retrieved June 25, 2007, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/phosphate

Temperature- Temperature of the water.

Turbidity- Cloudiness or haziness of the water.

Salinity- the saltiness, or the dissolved salt content of water.
