The mystery of the departure of the honeybees remains unsolved, but several reasons have been determined due to studies and research. The results have shown that the disappearance of these creatures are due to bee pests, diseases, pathogens, parasitical mites like the tracheal and the varroa vampire mite, and, of course, habitat loss. Some past research has shown that cell phones also contribute to the cause, but no further studies have expressed more detail on the subject. Bees all around the world have been greatly influenced by this phenomenon. This section shall demonstrate the factors to CCD, also known as Colony Collapse Disorder.
Parasitical mites are one of the main causes of the phenomenon. These parasitical hosts live off the honeybee and slowly kill the bee, while allowing the infestation to increase and affect the whole bee colony. This atrocity affects the male larvae and the working bees, disrupting their ability to reproduce with the queen bee and that allows for the destruction of the colony because of the inability to mate and reproduce more bees. Of the parasitical mites, the two that are mostly known are the tracheal mite and the varroa vampire mite. Other reasons like pathogens and habitat loss have brought about the phenomenon of CCD.
Another grand factor of this prevalent cause is the existence of pathogens, a microorganism that causes diseases, which greatly affect the lives of these hard working bees. These viral pathogens can wipe out colonies in within a year, or even within a couple of months. The most dangerous known pathogen for the bees is Paenibacillus larvae for it causes diseases in honeybees and their larvae.
Habitat loss is another factor contributing to the epidemic. Bees need a place to live in, and when humans interrupt their environment, then it corrupts their place of home. Sadly, what is a natural resource for us is actually a home for the bees. Honeybees need trees and so do we. It is a contradictory situation that must be handled with care. Trees are taken down everyday, meaning that these bees’ habitats are abolished everyday too. Could one imagine being taken away from their home? It does not matter where one comes from, the language they speak or their cultures’, one is always affected when their home is taken away. The use of pesticides can also add to the list of problems. This condition of CCD is a universal perplexity.
Sometimes the solution can also be the downfall. The solution can sometimes be the downfall also. Farmers use agricultural pesticides and chemicals to get rid of mites, but this can also ruin a bee or even kill it. One can understand that the beekeeper is trying to protect their property, or bees, but in the process they contribute to the cause. Most beekeepers are not usually aware of the problems they are causing, and that is why steps need to be taken to solve this. The public, on a world stance, must be educated and become knowledgeable so that they become aware of the perplexities of this issue. The topics named above were the main reasons as to why this is occurring honey bees are becoming endangered. The following listed below are shows other reasons that have been taken into consideration for the bees’ endangerment and they are:
-Poor nutrition (not being able to feed themselves correctly)
-Limited diversification of genetics (with so many bees dying, they are unable to diversify the species causing their extinction)
-Stress factors like entrapment, mobility and environmental instabilities
-Cell Phone radiation (radiation interrupts bee’s ability to locate their homes because it corrupts their antennas)
