The Lincoln Memorial

Starting The Project
   The Lincoln Memorial has an interesting history. According to "Our States" by Anne Stokely, the project was supposed to start in 1867, but it didn't because of lack of funds (Our States n. pag.). The project finally started in 1915. The Lincoln Memorial is located in Washington D.C. The reason for this famous monument was to represent freedom. Lincoln wanted equal rights for everyone.  He was the sixteenth  president of the United States. The Lincoln Memorial was finished in May, 1922. It took seven years to finish (Our States n. pag.).
About This Famous Rock
     The Memorial was made by Henry Bacon (33). The Lincoln Memorial is 79 feet 10inches high and 60 feet wide. The materials that were used in the making of it was different kinds of marble, granite, limestone, brick, and concrete. Just the sculpture of Lincoln was $88,400.00 (38). Colorado marble is used in the making of the Lincoln Memorial, 36 columns made of it. Each column made of Colorado marble is 44 feet high (Britannica n. pag.)
 Dedication
  There is an inscription carved over Lincoln's statue (16). In 1922, there was a dedication to Abraham Lincoln. The dedication was the Lincoln Memorial. Martin  Luther King Jr. in 1963, said in his famous speech "I Have A Dream" on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial (Britannica n. pag.). There are many speeches carved on the memorial, such as the Gettysburg Address. It took 1 year to finish carving all the speeches (Our States n. pag.).



  Where Is It Today?
 This famous monument is still in Washington D.C. today.  It still stands for freedom (Our States n. pag.). It stands for how Lincoln wanted to end slavery. Lincoln wanted justice for all Americans (16). The Lincoln Memorial is very famous.
