Additional Energy
SourcesWhat do you think when you
are
asked "What is
energy?" Energy refers to
many things, not just electricity.
Energy has a range from the cereal that you eat in the morning, to
dinner in the
evening. Except, scientists are starting to worry about
the supply of regular fuels. Someday they will run out and
there will
be riots in the streets. Bottom line, we are very dependant on fossil
fuels like oil, gas, peat and
coal. But do not worry, we are in the production of better
solar panels. The
government
is also worried because our used fuel might pollute the
air. Heat
energy also helps. The most deadly energy is called nuclear energy. It
is very
radioactive, it can cause cancer and even death. Even the reactors must
be disposed of very carefully. |
| There is an alternative though,
it is a fuel cell. It is like a battery, but combines oxygen
and
hydrogen to create electric energy. The only thing it leaves behind is
water. The fuel cells are becoming a major part of transportation
too. when the fuel cell was put in a airplane, the fuel cell generated twenty kilowatts(20,000 watts) for the engine. Also, hydrogen and oxygen are renewable resources. And as long as they are supplied, it will not stop generating energy. But even soon, the headquarters for fuel cells will be in the United States. The headquarters will be located in Colorado. |
| Even though nuclear energy is deadly, I
am sure we can overcome that problem (and come up with a cure for
cancer in the process). It looks like fuel cells will be the first
additional, nonpollutant energy source that will help us for a long
time. Nuclear energy and fuel cells are the future energy sources, and
the future is almost present. |
