A lunar eclipse is when the earths shadow covers up the moon. And it happens about twice a year. The moon gets put between the sun and the earth to create a shadow. We have found clay tablets from a very long time ago with drawings of eclipses. There are four types of movements of eclipses, such as: • A total eclipse is when the sun is completely covered by the moon • A partial eclipse is when the moon just barley covered the sun • An annular is when the moon is lined up exactly with the sun and you can only see a ring around the moon of the sun • A hybrid eclipse is between a partial and total eclipse. Unlike other eclipses, hybrid eclipses are very rare. A solar eclipse is when the moon is between the earth and the sun. From the moon a shadow is cast upon the earth. It will make a circle of shadow on part if the earth. The spot if the shadow is called the path of totality. It can cross any part of the earth. The path of totality only makes a very narrow path. About every 357 years, two paths of totality will occur in the same place. Eclipses are very short lasting a couple minuets.
Solar and Lunar Eclipses
