Introduction
We are a group of students from Raffles Institution, Singapore, and our project mainly focuses on Instant Messaging and how it has affected teenagers. Our interest in this area was sparked by the large usage of it amongst our peers, and after hearing so much about Instant Messaging, we decided to do a research study in this direction.
In this research study, we have found out about the pros and cons of Instant Messaging, why and how teenagers use Instant Messaging, and how different people think about Instant Messaging. This was done by reading through books and websites for available information, and collecting our own information through a social survey and interviews with certain people.
Before we started our research, we set out a few hypotheses about the topic and through the course of our research, many of them have been proven right. Some of the hypotheses include:
- Instant Messaging has become an integral part of teenage life.
- Instant Messaging is much more convenient and efficient than conventional methods like through the phone.
- Instant Messaging is now being used for a growing number of purposes.
- Using Instant Messaging too much can lead to addiction to it.
- Instant Messaging allows for greater interaction and socialisation among teenagers.
